Research Paper

First, I would like to do Kobuk Valley. It looks very interesting. It says on a website that it has no roads, no places to stop and get a snack, and no parking facilities. I think it would be interesting to learn about it since i've never heard of it before. It also looks very pretty in the pictures. It looks so calm.
Second, is the Golden Gate Bridge. I picked this because when I was in California I wanted to see it so bad! I never got the chance to but I have always been fascinated by it because everyone always talks about it. It would be very cool to learn more facts about it because I don't really know alot about it.
Lastly, I would like to do the Everglades. I visited it when I went to Florida. I thought it was so fun looking at all those alligators when I drove by. I also know that some of the animals in the Everglades were imported from different countries. I also know that some trees were not from our country. I also heard that all those plants and animals that were imported to fight off the Everglades but ended up making it bigger.

Paper

The three options I would do would be the Statue Liberty, Mount St. Helens, and World War II Memorial.
My first choice is the Statue of Liberty. I choice this one first because it has a lot of history, and such a meaning to it. It represents the freedom and drive, the determination, people showed, to have their rights. It might have token a long time for them to reach their goals, but the got them, and everyone now has the freedom of speech, (or not to speech) freedom to look for happiness, and freedom of press. I have never been to the Statue of Liberty, but of what I have heard it is a beautiful sight, and very important.
My second choice is Mount St. Helens. Mount St. Helens was an average place, with happy people, and then out of no where, it exploded. Leaving hundreds may be even thousands dead, and many injured. I want to no more about it, I know I could just look it up and find more information any time but, I would prefer doing it as an assignment, rather then just for “fun.” I realize not many people want to recall this tragedy, but it’s tragedies like this that we need to remember.
My third choice is the World War II Memorial. I want to figure out whose lives where lost, I might even find that people I know have been in the war and lived or passed on. I tend to get sad when ever I think of all the lives that were lost, fighting for our freedom, fighting for our rights. I hear the stories of people I know or have known of the wars, and the deaths, not quite understanding but listening, trying to.

My Top 3 Choices For My Research Paper

Arlington National Cemetery: This is my first choice for a subject, because I would like to learn more about it, and this is a place we will be visiting. The Arlington National Cemetery was established in 1864. It is spread out over 624 acres of land. More than 300,000 people are buried here. It's divided into 70 sections; and each section stands for something different. It's a very special honor to be buried here. Most buried here are veterans, and those killed in war. Other notable people such as Jacqueline Kennedy and William Howard Taft are buried here as well. There are many memorials there, such as the Challenger Memorial and the USS Maine Memorial. The Arlington National Cemetery is a very respectable and honoring place.

Alcatraz: This is second choice, because I thought it would be unique, and not everyone would want to write about it. It was established in 1934, as a federal prison in the US. It is on an island in the San Francisco Bay, near San Francisco, California. Some very famous criminals such as Al Capone and George "Machine Gun" Kelly stayed here. Before 1934, it was used as a holding place for Civil War prisoners. After the Civil War, the amount of prisoners increased due to the Spanish-American War.The island kept expanding, and new cells and buildings were added over time. An interesting fact is that, no one ever successfully escaped from Alcatraz. It was closed in 1963 by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, because it was the too expensive to run. Alcatraz is now a National Historic Landmark in the US, and is open to the public.

World Trade Center (The Twin Towers)/ 1 World Trade Center: I would like to write about the World Trade Center and Freedom Tower, because I feel like it would be a good subject to write about. The Towers were both built in the late 1960's to the early 1970's. It contained 13.4 million feet of office space and 110 stories. It was the tallest building in the World for a few years. The World Trade Center had minimal destruction before 2001, such as a fire and a small car bombing. In 2001 however, terrorists flew jets into the Towers on September 11th. Many people were killed and both buildings were destroyed. Soon after the attack, plans for a building to replace the Twin Towers, were proposed. The new tower will be called the 1 World Trade Center. Construction began in 2006, and is expected to end in 2013. There will also be a museum with history of the Twin Towers, and dedications to those who lost their lives that day.

Research Report

1. Yellowstone National Park

I would like to do Yellowstone National Park for my research report because I would like to visit the park someday. I have heard interesting things about that park and would like to learn more about it. There are a lot of interesting things in that park to see and it would be nice if I could learn more about the park and all of the attractions in Yellowstone National Park. This is a very nice park with many animals and a lot of different types of trees and plants. Yellowstone national park was the first national park in the world. Yellowstone National Park has an area of 3,468 square miles. The continental divide of North America runs through the southwestern area of the park. Yellowstone National Park is known for the wildlife and the geothermal features in the park. Yellowstone National Park is home to Old Faithful.

2. United States Capitol

For my second choice I would like to do the United States Capitol. We might be going there when we go to Washington D.C. and it might be nice to know a little more about it before we go there. The United States capitol is a very important building to our country. This is where the United States congress and the legislature meets. Before the United States capitol was there in Washington D.C. the government met in Philadelphia, New York city, and many other places. The construction of the United States Capitol began on September 18, 1793.

3. Statue of Liberty

For my third choice I would like to do the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is a very famous monument to this country. It would be nice to be able to go and see it someday because is very famous and a very cool structure. The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States by France to represent their friendship with the United States. The Statue of Liberty was built on October 28, 1886.

Research paper Ideas

My first choice is the Grand Canyon it sounds intrestiong to learn about. The Colorado River is at the bottom of the canyon. The north rim of the canyon rises about 1,200 feet higer then the south rim. Thi highest points on the rim are 9,000 feet above sea level. The colorful rocks were formed about millions of years ago. It is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. It is 4-13 miles wide at its brimm, 4,000-5-000 feet deeps and 217 miles long. It extends from the mouth of the Colorado river to the Grand Wash Cliffs. The Pueblo people revered the Grand Canyon as a holy site.

My second choice is The Golden Gate Bridge it sounds intresting to learn about. It starts a San San Francisco, California, and ends up in Sausalito, California. It is less then 8 miles away from the San Andreas fault line causeing some of the worst earthquake. More than 1 million have passed since the opening in 1937.

My third choice is Statue of Liberty. It was a gift from the French to the USA. It is 151 feet tall. It was made of a sheathing of pure copper and hung on framework of steel. It is in the New York Harbor. There ar 354 steps inside of the Statue of liberty. It has 25 window view of the New York Habor. The total weight of it is 450,000 pounds.

English paper

Lincoln memorial

I would like to resource this monument, because I know very little about and I wold like to know more about it. This monument was built obviously to horror Abraham Lincoln who freed the slaves from the south. He was a great general and president who won the revolutionary war. He was killed by John Both in a movie cinema. He snuck up right next to him and put a bullet right though his head, it was one of the most tragic things to happen to American history. He was a great man and a great leader, and I would like to learn more a bout his work and what he did.

world war two memorial

I would like to do the World War two memorial because I would like to learn more about what it stayed for. All I know is that what happened to Hitler and the Jews. I would like to learn what happened to the American soldiers in the war. And how it started to end. Or maybe what the Russian soldiers did. and that is why I want to do this memorial.

Holocaust museum

The Holocaust was a really bad thing that should have never happened. this was the worst thing that had ever happened. I know a lot about the holocaust but i know nothing about the museum. I feel that people are trying to forget the holocaust but that is wrong. I know it was bad but we need to remember what happened and how bad of a person Hitler was. And that is why I would like to resource this Museum.

Research Paper Ideas

1. Giant Sequoia: This looks really cool. The trees are very huge. I thought the biggest trees were the Redwoods. I would love to go there and stand next to one of the trees. The facts about these trees would be very interesting.

2. Mount Rushmore: I would like to do Mt. Rushmore because it is very interesting. I have been there recently and I really enjoyed the trip. When we went there we read some facts about it and most of all looked at the significance of it, but I would like to get more in depth. I would have more of an idea on how to write the paper since I've went there last year. The Badlands are also very cool.

3. Gila Cliff Dwellings: The Cliff Dwellings would be cool. I would like to know the history behind it and how it came to be. By the pictures its seems really cool that a forest like that can be here. If I could I would climb the mountains. My other chioce besides this is the Corn Palace. I have been there and it's PRETTY CORNY.

English Reaserch Paper

I would like to do my research paper about:
*Yellowstone National Park
*Rocky Mountain National Park
*Glacier National Park
*Everglades National Park
*Olympic National Park
These would be of interest to me because there is a lot of information about them and they would be interesting to learn about. I could learn about the animals, plants, when they were made for vacationing, and much much more! I would be able to learn about the tree counts in the parks and if that is good or bad- enough or not enough- for the environment. I could find out if there are any landforms like waterfalls, mountains, etc. All in all I would really like to learn about a national park in the USA.

Research Paper

1. Yellowstone National Park. I would like to do Yellowstone National Park for my research paper. There are many fascinating things about the park, from volcanoes to geysers and many different species of animals. Yellowstone Park seems like it would have many things I could write about and I would enjoy it. I would have plenty of information and I would have fun with finding out the research. Yellowstone Park is a very big park, 2,221,766 acres. The park is found in three different states: Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. It would be neat to hear all about Yellowstone Park, the first national park, and the unique things that are found there.

2. Mount St. Helens. Mount St. Helens is located in southwestern Washington. The huge volcano is known as the volcano to cause the biggest and deadliest volcanic eruption in the US. I don't know much about Mount St. Helens, so it would be neat to learn about a new thing. The volcano is about 40,000 years old. The last time it erupted was in 2004. St Helens seems to have some history behind it that changed the environment around it.

3. Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon is one of the most common national parks. Because it's so big, it took 3-6 million years to form. There is so much life in the canyon: about 70 species of mammals and 250 species of birds. I would like to learn more about the Grand Canyon and all of the things that make it up. I could find a lot of information on the canyon and it would be cool for me to learn about it.

What i want to do for my research paper!!!!

The first place i pick would be Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone was formed in 1872. It is the U.S. first national park. it is located in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. There are many animals that live in Yellowstone such as grizzly bears, wolfs, bison, elk and many more. Old Faithful is also located in Yellowstone. They have a collection of the world's most extraordinary geysers and hot springs, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. When you go to Yellowstone you can hike, fish, take tours, go through hidden caves. Yellowstone's climate is one of cold winters and moderate summers. Most of the park is above 7,500 feet and the weather is unpredictable. Be prepared for changing temperatures, storms.
My second choice is Mount St. Helens. Mount St. Helens is a volcano located in Skamania County, Washington. It is 96 miles south of Seattle and 50 mile Northeast of Portland Oregon. It got its name from a british diplomat. It is manily famous for the eruption on May 18, 1980 at 8:32am. It was the most catostraphic eruptin in the United States. Fifty-seven people were killed; 250 homes, 47 bridges, 15 miles of railways, and 185 miles of highway were destroyed. After the eruption there was a debris avalanche. The explosion was so severe it made the north side of the volcano break off. Now in its place thier is a horseshoe shaped crater. The eruption made the volcano reduce 9,677 ft. The monument was made to keep the rest of the volcano to be studied for scientific purposes.
My third choice is Buck Island Reef. Buck Island, one of the Virgin Islands, is a great recreational site and attracts many tourists. It is 6000 ft. long, a half mile wide, and uninhabited. It is also the holding place for the Buck Island Reef. This national monument includes 176 acres of land and 704 acres of water and coral reef. The reef wad first protected in 1948, the area was made a national monument in 1961. It has many types of fish some are endangered such as Brown Pelican, Hawksbill, Leatherback and the Green Sea Turtle. There are many fish in the area, such as Parrotfish, French Angelfish, and Blue Tang. Concessionaires give half, and all day tours daily to Buck Island from St.Croix so you can enjoy snorkeling and other activities. The island and reef are great recreational spots, and atract many tourists.

English project

The three national parks I would want to do for my project is ether,
a. Yellowstone national park
b. Hawaii’s national volcano park
c. Custer’s state park
Yellowstone is my first because not only have I been there, this is the one I know the most about. I think I could do the best job on this one. Yellow stone is a big park that I would be able to work with the best.Yellowstone is a beautiful place with tons of things to see like old faithful, caves, mountains, wild animals, waterfalls, and a lot more. This is a really cool place.
Hawaii’s national volcano park is my second choice. Hawaii’s national volcano park is my second choice. This park is located on the big island. I think I will do very good on this park if I cant do Yellowstone. this would be a cool place to do a project
My third choice would be Custer’s state park. This park was made in remembrance of Custer’s last stand. Supposedly his last stand was on that land. This one isn’t as exiting as the volcano or yellow stone but its an interesting place.

My topics :)

My first choice would be to do Devil's Tower. Devil's Tower is 1267 feet above the Belle Fourche River in Crook County, Wyoming. Devil's Tower was declared the first national monument by President Theodore Roosevelt. It is believed to have been the last standing parts of an old volcano. Throughout the years it has been eroding slightly, but every year their are about 400,000 visitors that take the challenge to climb to the top.

My second choice is the Craters of the Moon. it is located in the Snake River Plain in Idaho. It has an elevation of around 5,900 feet above sea level. The monument was established on May 2, 1924. It covers an area of 1,117 square miles of three major lava fields and 400 square miles of sagebrush steppe grasslands. It ususally gets around 200,000 visitors each year.

My third choice is Crazy Horse. It is in Black Hills, South Dakota. The monument is getting carved into Thunderhead Mountain and it is still under construction. When it is finsihed it is believed to be 641 feet wide and 563 feet high. It has been under construction since 1948. When the monument will be finished, it is going to be the world's largest sculpture.

U.S.A Monuments

~Statue of Liberty:
I would like to research the Statue of Liberty because it's a symbol of our country's freedom. It's located on Liberty Island and is also called Lady Liberty. Most people only see the lady holding a book and a torch when they first see it, but there's more than that. The woman is standing on broken chains and on the book, the date of Independence Day is inscribed (JULY IV MDCCLXXVI). The Statue of Liberty was given to us from France to represent freedom and democracy on October 28, 1886. Frederic Auguste Bartholdi built it, recieving a U.S. patent on it. The builder of the Eiffel Tower, Maurice Koechlin, built the inside of Lady Liberty, or as the French call it, Statue de la Liberte. Everything is made of copper, but the torch the woman is holding is made of gold leaf. The Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognizable icons of the Untited States of America.
~World Trade Center:
Everyone knows about the World Trade Center, or WTC, crashing down after a terrorist attack, but not everyone knows more than that. These famous buildings were built by Minoru Yamasaki in the 1960's. The North Tower was completed in December 1970 and the South Tower was finished in July 1971. The WTC was 13.4 million square feet. It went through a fire in February 1975, but obviously it survived until the famous date September 11, 2001.
~ World War II Memorial:
The last option I would like to research is the World War II Memorial because my great-grandpa fought in World War II and was shot in the arm, but lived. I'm hoping if I get it, I'll get a list of who was in the war and it would be cool to find my great-grandpa's name. Even if I don't get it, I'll still probably look up the list. It was opened to the public in April 2004. More than 4.4 million people visit it each year. It is made up of 56 pillars and a pair of arches. It's located in Washington, D.C., so we might see it this year!

Research Paper Topics

My first choice would be the Rainbow Bridge. I want to write about the Rainbow Bridge because I just went there in 2008. The Rainbow Bridge is a symbol of peace between the United States and Canada. It was built after the Honeymoon Bridge collapsed. The water current under the bridge averages 26-30 miles an hour. The construction for the bridge started in May of 1940. It opened on November 1, 1941.

My second choice would be the Gateway Arch. I would like to write about the Gateway Arch because I've been there. It is also known as the Gateway to the West. They built it to symbolize when the first pioneers went out to the West. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. On July 21, 2007, about 200 people were trapped in tram cars due to an electrical problem. The tram was closed the next day.

My third choice would be Grand Teton National Park. I have also been to Grand Teton National Park. It is just south of Yellowstone. It is named after the Grand Teton, the tallest mountain in the Teton Range. It was established on February 26, 1929. It covers 484 square miles. there are 200 miles of trails for hikers.

3 choices

2. My second choice for the topic of my report would deffinantly be Mt. Rushmore. I have been there once before. I think i went when i was in second grade with my mom, dad, and I. It is one of the greatest memories of spending time with my dad. that is one of the reasons i want to do it.I find things very interesting about that place. It has a lot of history behind it, and i want to learn more about it. It has over 3 million visitors per year. There was also about 400 workers that worked on carving the momument.
3. My third choice would be the Grand Canyon. I have not been ther before, but i have always wanted to go, and i am planning on going later in life with my own family. I thought this would be a good subject to do because i think it would be interesting to learn on how things were made and the process in how things happened. I would also like to learn about the types of animals, birds, lizards, and all the things that live there. It is located in the state of Arizona. It is 277 miles long.
1. My first choice would definntly be the badlands, located in South Dakota. I have also been there with my family on the same trip where we saw Mt. Rushmore. It was awesome to see all the cool rock formations, and things there. The badlands are where robbers used to hide from the law. It is in the middle of nowhwere. Some say it can be a spooky place at times, but i think it's a really cool place. it contains the worldest richest Oligocene epoch fossil beds, dating back to 37-28 million years old.
1. Grand Canyon: My first choice would be the grand canyon. I always wanted to visit the grand canyon because it seems like a very interesting place to visit. I looked at pictures of the grand canyon and it looks very cool. I think it would be a very cool place to visit. It has many different colors of rocks and other features to it that amaze me.
2. Mount Rushmore: My second choice would be Mt. Rushmore. I think Mt. Rushmore is a very monumental place that looks like it would be a good place to visit. It is one of the most popular monumental sites that there is. It has the pictures of four of the most famous presidents of all time. I really think I would enjoy this place if I went to go visit it. It just sounds like a great place to go visit.
3. Jewel Cave: My third choice would be Jewel Cave. This is one of the largest caves in America. It looks very cool in the inside of the cave. It is a huge cave with lots of rooms in it of caves. There are many huge rocks inside of it. It is a very cool looking cave that looks like it would be fun to visit.

topics

1-World War II Monument- i chose the world war II monument because i have 3 grandfathers who have been in it and i could ask them about how it was and how it was like to be in it.. It was opened to the public on April 29, 2004. I think that world war two was an intresting war so i would like to do that monument to learn more about it. It has 56 pillars and a pair of arches surrounding the water fountain. It seems like a real interesting place to visit.
2-Washington Monument- i chose the Washignton Monument as my second choice because it is one of my favorite and most interesting monuments i like. There is no other monument that is that similair to it. It is the most prominent structure in Washington D.C. It stands 555’ 5 1/8” tall and shows you a view of Washington D.C. It would be pretty cool to go up in it.
3-Devils Tower- I chose Devils Tower as my 3rd choice because it seems like a interesting place. It seems weird because its just a big rock in the open. It would be a cool place to check out tho. It would be cool to find out why it is there and how it was formed. It is 1,267 feet tall.

U.S. Monuments

1. My first choice would be Mount Rushmore. It was built during 1927 and 1941 and took 400 workers! It represents the first 150 years of the Untied States history. It is located in the Black Hills in South Dakota and is made of granite and mica schist. The sculptor began drilling into the originally 5,725 foot tall mountain when he was 60 years old. The workers had to climb 506 steps daily to get to the top. I think Mount Rushmore would be interesting to learn about.

2. My second choice would be the Sears Tower. It is the tallest building in the United States, 1,450 feet and seven inches to be exact. It has 110 floors and 104 elevators! It also has about 16,100 bronze tinted windows. It is located in Chicago, Illinois and cost about $175 million dollars at the time.

3. My third choice would be the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. It protected the Spanish Army from the Mexican Army. My dad has been there and he said that is was interesting. The battle of the Alamo took place in February 23rd to March 6th 1836. Alamo actually means Cottonwood, people believe it is because the Alamo is surrounded by trees.
1. Devils Tower: I want to write about the Devils tower because it seems like a interesting monument. It rises dramatically 1,267 feet above the ground around it. Also the summit is 5,112 feet above sea level. The Monument's boundary is an area of 1,347 acres. In Lakota, it means Mato Tipila, which, in English, means Bear Lodge. Scientists conclude that it was formed by the intrusion of igneous material. The Devils Tower was the first declared United States National Monument, on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. The name, Devil's Tower, originated in 1875 during an expedition led by Col. Richard Irving Dodge, when his interpreter misinterpreted the name to mean Bad God's Tower. Later it was shortened to Devil's Tower. In the recent about 1% of the Monument's 400,000 annual visitors, climb Devils Tower. They mostly climb it through traditional climbing techniques.

2. Craters of the Moon: My second choice is the Craters of the Moon. At average elevation, it is 5,900 feet above sea level. The area's features are volcanic and represent one of the best preserved flood basalt areas in the United States. The Monument and Preserve include three major lava fields and about 400 square miles of sagebrush steppe grasslands to cover a total area of 1,117 square miles. Early white pioneers who looked for gold, affordable farm land to raise crops, or cheap ranch land for cattle also avoided the lava fields and considered them useless.

3. Gila Cliff Dwellings: My third choice is the Gila Cliff Dwellings. It is 533-acre and was established by executive proclamation on November 16, 1907, by President Theodore Roosevelt . It is located in the southern part of Catron County. The cliff was created by volcanic activity. The cliff contains the ruins of the cave dwellings built in five cliff alcoves by the Mongolian peoples. People of the Mongolian culture lived in these cliff dwellings from between 1275 AD and 1300 AD. Archaeologists have identified 46 rooms in the five caves, and believed they were occupied by 10-15 families. They do not know why the dwellings were abandoned.

I put the links to different pages in case you don't know what they are.

Today's Blogging Assignment

Going along with what we did last week, today you're going to interview a stranger. That's right - you have no idea who will answer the questions you write. It could be one of your best friends, one of your classmates, or a complete stranger! Here's what you need to do:
Write out 5 questions that any person in the world could answer. These questions need to require more than a one word answer, so no 'yes or no' questions, and no questions that ask, 'What is your favorite day of the week?' or anything else that could possibly be answered in one word or less. You could ask questions that end in, '...and why?' to work your way around this one. If you're stumped for questions try doing a little research for possible interview questions.
Please title your post "Interview with a Stranger."
When you finish, head over to Spelling City for some practice on this week's words (Chapter 18). When everyone is finished writing your questions I'll tell you all to go back to the blog and comment on two different posts. You need to read a post and reply with an answer to that person's 5 questions. Each post only should have two responses on it so if you see a post without any responses go to that one first.
